Ich habe mich heute das erste mal in den Apache Forrest eingearbeitet. Der Apache Forrest ist ein Projekt der Apache Foundation welches es ermöglicht xml Daten in ein beliebiges anderes Format zu konvertieren. Genauer gesagt ist der Forrest ein Publishing Framework, aufbauend auf dem Cocoon (ein xml Framework).

Apache Forrest is a publishing framework that transforms input from various sources into a unified presentation in one or more output formats. The modular and extensible plugin architecture is based on Apache Cocoon and relevant standards, which separates presentation from content. Forrest can generate static documents, or be used as a dynamic server, or be deployed by its automated facility.

Ich werde mich in den nächsten Tagen noch weiter mit Forrest beschäftigen. Konkret geht es um das “stylen” einer Software Dokumentation. Das Layout habe ich bereits in InDesign angefertigt, jetzt müssen für den Forrest nur noch die entsprechenden xml/xslt Daten erstellt werden, und das “computer-generated-publishing” kann beginnen.
